Customer Spotlight: The New School

Challenge 

At The New School, the dining hall serves over 2,500 students a day in a compact, high-efficiency space. With every square inch dedicated to feeding students — including stations for fresh sushi and smoothies — Dining Services Director Anne Moriarta needed a new dessert option that wouldn’t slow things down or add operational complexity. 

“Our lines can get pretty long at some stations. I wanted something that could offer students a quick treat without creating a bottleneck or adding staff burden.” 

Students also craved variety and more exciting dessert options beyond the usual grab-and-go items like granola bars or fruit. 

Solution 

The New School introduced ColdSnap, the on-demand frozen treat system that creates single servings of ice cream and non-dairy frozen desserts in just two minutes — with no cleanup, minimal maintenance, and maximum fun. 

“When they first came and showed us ColdSnap, I was like ‘this is just a great product — it’s a no-brainer.’” 

ColdSnap’s sleek, self-serve machine was placed front and center in the main dining hall, offering students an engaging experience and total control over their dessert. 

“Our students love the autonomy that ColdSnap gives them — they can serve themselves exactly how they want, and it’s quick!” 

Implementation 

The dining team rolled out ColdSnap with a simple, student-friendly setup: 

  • Self-serve machine positioned near the beverage station 
  • Favorites on tap: Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Chocolate Oat Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert, among others 
  • DIY toppings bar with M&M’s, sprinkles, and chocolate chips 
  • Meal plan integrated: students can swipe and go 

Anne helped build buzz through sampling events in the dining hall using small souffle cups. Word-of-mouth quickly spread. 

“Once they realized it’s all them — it’s a fun little thing they can do themselves — they were so excited. We have one girl who buys one every day!” 

Results 

ColdSnap became a hit with students and staff alike, delivering major value in a small footprint.
