The Role:

We are seeking a full-time Automation Controls Engineer III to join our growing team at our facility in Billerica, MA. The role is responsible for the project management and development of User Requirement Specifications and/or design of the electromechanical systems and controls functions of new and retrofitted industrial automation. Developing machine mechanisms, assemblies, machine function algorithms, and diagnostic tools will be required. Specifying and programming automation components such as PLCs, building controls systems, robots, and servos need to be done periodically. While fulfilling the Project Manager component of this role, mentoring junior mechanical, manufacturing and automation engineers will be required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design electromechanical systems for newly required automation or modify existing machinery to automate manufacturing processes.
  • Develop robust and precise User Requirements Specifications to drive cost-effective, reliable automation and appropriate selection of automation suppliers.
  • Directly interface with Automation Suppliers as a primary technical interface for alignment to URS, as well as helping to resolve technical challenges as they develop.
  • Assist in developing the overall automation architecture and support infrastructure including but not limited to modelling of the complete production process flow and throughput algorithms.
  • Design and specify electrical components for custom automated industrial machines.
  • Work with junior engineers to develop automation operational work instructions, alignment tools and procedures as well as PM programs.
  • Coordinate with other engineers and manufacturing to ensure design intent and cost-effectiveness of production are achieved.
  • Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides for newly established automated equipment/processes.
  • Manage individual project budgets and schedules and routinely report progress.
  • Oversee and participate in design reviews, research, installation, FAT, SAT and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Ability to create design feedback and improvement suggestions and brainstorm with other individuals and engineering disciplines.
  • Adhere to good manufacturing and good documentation practices.
  • Lead, advise, and train more junior engineers.
  • Ability to self-direct on projects and tasks and the ability to manage a team.
  • Review, understand, and explain specifications and prints.
  • Develop machine and manning timing plans for new production equipment /processes as it relates to factory throughput.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, EE, Automation, or Related Field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the design of automated equipment.
  • Expert Knowledge in 3D CAD software.
  • Competence in PLC Programming.
  • Competence in HMI Programming.
  • Ability to drive outside suppliers to produce fully functional automation at a reasonable cost while maintaining an aggressive timeline.
  • Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Skills Desired:

  • Expertise in Solidworks.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi PLC programming.
  • Experience with C-More, Ignition and Mitsubishi HMI programming.
  • Machine shop and welding knowledge.
  • Experience with GD&T ANSI Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and ergonomic principles.
  • Familiar with 6-Axis robot programming.
  • Familiar with machine vision design and programming.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This work will be done in an office and on the manufacturing floor.
  • Must be able to stand/work on your feet for several hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift and manipulate 50 lbs. on a periodic basis.
  • Must be willing and able to work on-site at our facility in Billerica, MA.

Engineering Co-Op Opportunity :

ColdSnap Engineering Co-Op program provides current college students with meaningful assignments and valuable exposure to our company’s senior leaders. Our Co-Op is offered to candidates working towards their bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or math discipline and will operate full-time from January to August or May to December as we work with your University towards Academic credit for your work.

The Appliance Team Engineering Co-Op: Work to build, test, and advance our ColdSnap appliance. The incumbent on this team will participate in research and development.

The Pod Team Engineering Co-Op: Develop and test our ColdSnap pod that holds our delicious treats and is used in our appliances.

Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op: Focuses on the design and operation of the production line for manufacturing our ColdSnap pods in our Billerica, MA facility.

Successful Candidate’s Profile:

  • We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative team members who understand the importance of collaboration and customer focus.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a BS with an Engineering major with a cumulative overall GPA at or above 3.0 throughout the program.
  • Must be available to work full-time for 6-8 consecutive months (January- August or May-December)
  • Collaborate with others to foster effective teamwork by linking your responsibilities to the team’s goals and needs for new information, knowledge, and experiences.

The Role:

We are seeking a full-time Human Resources Manager to join our growing team at our office in Billerica, MA. This individual will be responsible for assisting the ColdSnap team in all aspects of human resources- including both administrative and strategic responsibilities. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for policy maintenance, annual performance review administration, payroll, recruiting, onboarding & offboarding, benefits, and handling employee related matters and will report to the President.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the ColdSnap employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart.
  • Administer benefits and compensation, including but not limited to running payroll.
  • Administer annual performance reviews and guide management to have productive conversations.
  • Ensure legal compliance with state and federal employment regulations and laws.
  • Drive and coordinate recruiting efforts. Facilitate the interview process and hiring discussions among interviewers and managers – and ensure that best hiring practices are adhered to.
  • Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new hire orientation, and exit interviews, including entering data into HR information systems and auditing for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee and implement employee training programs.
  • Provide an effective and dedicated HR advisory service to employees in relation to absence and health issues, conduct and capability, grievance matters, organizational change, and all other employee-relations matters.
  • Help create and maintain a culture that allows ColdSnap to attract and retain the very best talent.
